Tinning is used as a coating due to its good corrosion resistance, solderability, and low contact resistance. Additionally, tinning provides the piece with a shiny and uniform decorative surface. Copper plating and semi-bright nickel plating are used underneath tinning to enhance adhesion and increase corrosion resistance.
The pieces are treated through an electrolytic process. Tinning can be done on brass, steel, copper, and aluminium. The treatment is carried out through hanging and barrel processes on automatic lines.
