Career Stories from Stremet – press brake operator Aleksi

Aleksi Hellsten, who was selected as the most positive employee of the year, describes himself as a sociable and cheerful new press brake operator. Previously, he had studied to become a chef and worked in that field for about seven years. However, he eventually grew tired of the restaurant industry and wanted to try something new.

Aleksi explains that he ended up working at Stremet based on a recommendation from a friend. “After that, I called Hans directly, and he immediately asked when I could start,” Aleksi adds. Aleksi has been working at Stremet for four years now. When he first joined, he hadn’t even seen any equipment related to the field.

Initially, everything was new and quite challenging. According to Aleksi, it took him about a year to become proficient at independent work with parts and drawings. “With the guidance and encouragement of colleagues, I may someday become a master of the craft,” Aleksi says cheerfully. Aleksi’s work primarily involves operating press brake machines. Occasionally, he performs tapping or stud inserting as well. His workdays start at six in the morning when the machines are turned on and work begins on making products ready for shipping to customers.

Aleksi believes that the best part of his job is achieving successes by figuring out how to create specific parts himself. Challenging moments do arise, especially when he encounters a new or more complex to create part. “All our coworkers are helpful and nice. If you ask for help, you’ll definitely get it, albeit sometimes with a bit of playful teasing,” Aleksi says with a twinkle in his eye. According to him, it’s easy to approach the management team. Employee requests and ideas are well considered. Aleksi doesn’t find the industry too taxing and has energy left after his shifts end. He finds physical activity crucial for his recovery, and he’s engaged in a wide range of sports.

Within the work community, Aleksi is highly regarded by his colleagues. Other coworkers describe Aleksi as extremely diligent, precise, and hardworking. “Aleksi never has bad days. Or if he does, he turns them into smiles,” a coworker describes. It’s been said about Aleksi that he’s never late and carries out his tasks without complaints. “Aleksi always has a smile on his face and takes everyone into consideration,” another coworker adds.
